How do I get 16 gauge earrings in my ears that are like 22 gauge?

For some rationality my mom got my ears pierced when I was little, but I didn't like wearing earrings. Now I privation to put circular barbell earrings in, but I want 16 gauge and they won't fit. What do I do?
